FIREARMS AMNESTY UPDATE |
||
Sixty-six Turkish top-venting blank firers, 20 other firearms including a musket, and ammunition were handed into our police stations during a four-week amnesty last month. Alongside all other forces in England and Wales, we held the amnesty for owners of four types of Turkish top-venting blank firers in February. The majority of those handed in were Ekol and Retay. Possession of one of the Turkish top-venting blank firers now the amnesty has ended may result in criminal prosecution. Superintendent Mat Derrick, head of operations, said: “We had a great response to the amnesty and 86 firearms have been inspected and will be destroyed. This will help to keep our communities safe by reducing the possibility of them being used inappropriately.”
